External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said New Delhi has placed development cooperation and capability-building programmes at the core of India-Africa relations.
He was addressing the curtain raiser event for the 4th India-Africa Forum Summit, which is due to be held from 28th May to 31st May 2026.
The External Affairs Minister launched the logo, theme, and website for the upcoming summit. This is a major milestone, marking the first time this high-level gathering has taken place in over a decade since 2015.
It is an official institutional platform for Africa-India relations and a high-level consultative mechanism between the Government of India and the member states of the African Union.
Dr. Jaishankar said that Africa occupies a central place in India’s foreign policy.
Dr. Jaishankar stressed that defence, security, and maritime engagement are an important part of India’s commitment towards Africa. He informed that India has opened 17 new missions in Africa, and currently has 47 missions across the continent. He added that Viksit Bharat 2047 and Africa’s Agenda 2063 are complementary roadmaps for prosperity and progress.
