56.08% turnout till 1 PM in Tamil Nadu polls

Voting is underway in Tamil Nadu in a single phase for all 234 Assembly constituencies in the state. Till 1 PM, a 56.08 per cent voter turnout was recorded.

Over 5.7 crore voters will decide the electoral fate of 4,023 candidates in the fray.

In an effort to enhance voter experience and inclusivity, 249 model polling stations have been established.

These include booths entirely managed by women, persons with disabilities, and youth. A new category of green polling stations has also been introduced.

Delegates of the International Election Visitors’ Programme 2026 are also visiting Tamil Nadu to witness the polling process in the state.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged people of Tamil Nadu, especially the youth, to vote in large numbers.
