The Railway Board has issued a circular clarifying that all divyangjan (persons with disabilities) holding a Unique Disability Identification (UDID) card are eligible to travel in reserved SLRD and LSLRD coaches of mail and express trains.

According to the circular, passengers falling under the following two categories will be considered ‘bona fide’ for travel in these special coaches:

Holders of a valid UDID card issued by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPWD).
Divyangjan who have been granted concessional fare facility by Indian Railways.

The railway has clarified that passengers from these categories must possess a valid ticket or authority for travel.

The railway has taken a strict stance against unauthorized passengers occupying these coaches meant for divyangjan. If any unauthorized person is found traveling in these coaches, punitive action will be taken under various sections of the Railway Act, 1989.
