Myanmar’s Junta leader Min Aung Hlaing visited polling stations in Yangon on Sunday as voters cast their ballots in the second phase of the military-run election.

Polling Booths opened at 6 a.m. local time in 100 townships across the country, including parts of Sagaing, Magway, Mandalay, Bago, and Tanin-thar-yi regions.

The military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) is leading by a huge margin after winning 90 of the 102 lower house seats contested in the first phase on 28th December.

The voter turnout in that round was 52.13%, much lower than elections in 2020 and 2015.

The election is being held in three phases. The first round took place on 28th December, the second phase on Sunday, and the final round is scheduled for 25th January.

In total, voting will occur in 265 of Myanmar’s 330 townships, including areas where the junta does not have full control. 65 townships will not participate due to ongoing fighting.
