The United States has said its conflict with Iran has cost about $37.5 billion, up nearly $8 billion from the previous estimate in May.
Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth told the Senate the rising costs underscored the need for lawmakers to approve supplemental funding and the proposed 2027 defence budget. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, meanwhile, said Washington remained committed to pursuing a diplomatic resolution even as military operations continued.
The US military said it carried out another day of strikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure. President Donald Trump warned that further attacks could follow if Iran targeted shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran, meanwhile, said it had launched attacks on US interests in the region. The conflict has also disrupted shipping routes, pushing Brent crude above $95 a barrel amid concerns over energy supplies.
