The India Meteorological Department on Monday issued a heatwave alert for parts of northwest and central India, while forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall over the northeastern region over the next three days.
According to the IMD, yellow alert conditions and heatwave are very likely at isolated places in Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Vidarbha.
Hot and humid conditions are also expected at isolated locations over Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Mahe, and Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, the IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam and Meghalaya.
Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated locations in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
In addition, thunderstorms accompanied by hailstorms are very likely at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand.
Authorities have advised residents in affected regions to take necessary precautions and follow official weather updates.
