President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and ExxonMobil signed a major energy agreement on Thursday at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Washington, D.C.

The agreement was signed by ExxonMobil Vice President John Ardill and Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov. U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and President Aliyev were there during the signing.

The deal comes just one day before U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to host the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia at the White House for an official peace signing ceremony on Friday.

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump stated that the United States will also be signing bilateral economic agreements with both Azerbaijan and Armenia. According to officials, a framework agreement will be signed, aimed at establishing a concrete path toward peace and addressing a longstanding regional transit issue.
