Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms lashed most parts of Delhi, bringing respite from the hot and humid weather that had prevailed in the national capital over the past few days.
Amid the Delhi weather alert, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the national capital. Propelled by regular rainfall on 23 of the 31 days this month, the Capital has recorded its cleanest air for July in the past 10 years, according to data shared by the Central Pollution Control Board.
Until July 30, the monthly average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 79, which is classified as “satisfactory.”
Moderate rainfall is predicted in many parts of the western region of the country over the next 6–7 days.
Moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, is likely to continue over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya until August 3.
Similar conditions will prevail over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, and over Bihar until August 2. Moderate rainfall is also expected in many areas of Kerala, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana over the next 7 days.
