China has announced new export controls targeting 10 American companies involved in defence and rare earths mining, in a fresh escalation of trade and technology tensions with the United States.
The measures come in response to Washington’s decision to blacklist dozens of Chinese firms accused of supporting China’s military recently.
Beijing said the export controls are aimed at safeguarding national security and will restrict the supply of dual-use items to the affected U.S. companies. China has also barred government agencies from purchasing products from 46 American defence firms, including Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Boeing’s defence division.
The move adds to growing friction between the two countries over technology, defence and Taiwan, despite recent efforts by both sides to stabilise bilateral ties.
