IMD forecasts heavy rainfall over Northeast, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala and other regions

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall over parts of the North Eastern region, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala, Mahe, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal today.

According to the IMD, conditions are favourable for the further advance of the Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, additional parts of Odisha and parts of South Chhattisgarh during the next two to three days.

The Met Department has also predicted thundersquall activity with wind speeds reaching 60 to 70 kilometres per hour and gusting up to 80 kilometres per hour at isolated places over East Rajasthan today.

Meanwhile, heat wave conditions are likely to prevail over parts of Maharashtra today. Hot and humid weather conditions are also expected over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Konkan, Goa and Odisha till tomorrow.

Further, squally weather with wind speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour, gusting up to 60 kilometres per hour, is likely to prevail over the Gulf of Mannar, Comorin area, along and off the Sri Lanka coast, the southwest Bay of Bengal adjoining the southeast and parts of the central Bay of Bengal, along and off the Odisha coast, and over the Andaman Sea today.
