Firefighters in Tuscany, Italy are battling a massive forest fire that has been raging since Tuesday, with strong winds intensifying the blaze and forcing the evacuation of nearly 3,000 residents.
The fire has scorched more than 800 hectares on Mount Faeta, affecting areas across the provinces of Lucca and Pisa.
Local authorities believe the blaze may have been triggered by burning olive tree prunings that spiralled out of control. Overnight winds worsened the situation, prompting precautionary evacuations in nearby communities.
Firefighting teams on the ground are being supported by three water-scooping Canadair CL-415 aircraft, as efforts continue to bring the wildfire under control.
