NASA presented the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope on Tuesday, saying it is prepared for launch in early September. The launch is scheduled roughly eight months ahead of the original timeline.
According to NASA, the telescope named after the agency’s first chief astronomer will have a field of view at least 100 times wider than Hubble’s and could potentially observe light from up to a billion galaxies over its lifetime.
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman stated that the project was also done under budget and will enhance current capabilities like the Hubble and James Webb telescopes.
The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is expected to see exoplanets and planet-forming disks to better map the planetary systems in the Milky Way.
