Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held public rallies in Jhargram, Purulia and Bishnupur of West Bengal. The West Bengal Assembly elections are scheduled to be conducted in two phases on 23 and 29 April, with counting of votes on 4 May.

In Purulia, the Prime Minister held an impromptu roadshow followed by a packed rally. He said the people of West Bengal are looking towards the BJP with hope for development and a better future.

He also alleged that people in the state are standing up against the Trinamool Congress (TMC) politics of violence, fear and intimidation.

Addressing a rally in Jhargram, PM Modi highlighted women’s empowerment as a key pillar of the BJP’s agenda and positioned the party as a strong advocate for women’s safety and participation in public life.

In Bishnupur, PM Modi launched a sharp attack on the state’s ruling party and made strong political remarks, saying the TMC did not want the daughters of Bengal to become MLAs or MPs in large numbers because women of Bengal are challenging what he called their “Maha Jungle Raj.”

He further said the TMC, in collusion with the Congress, prevented the enactment of a law to reserve 33% of seats for women.

He added that the same TMC flouts laws to extend benefits to infiltrators and is bent upon providing reservation on the basis of religion, which he said goes against the spirit of the Constitution.
