A trove of astonishing photos taken by the crew during their record-setting lunar flyby shows the far side of the Moon in great detail, as well as the Earth rising and setting behind it.

The astronauts also captured the breathtaking photo of  galaxy, the Milky Way, on April 7, 2026. The magnificent photo shows full of stars in the sky.

The four astronauts of NASA’s Artemis II mission flew deeper into space than any humans before them, cruising through a rare flyby of the shadowed far side of the Moon, revealing a surface scarred by cosmic bombardment.

The six-hour flyby occurred six days into a spaceflight marking the world’s first voyage of astronauts to the vicinity of the Moon since the Apollo era over 50 years ago.

The crew of NASA’s Artemis II mission left the lunar sphere of influence on Tuesday, heading back to Earth.

As NASA prepares for the Artemis II crew splashdown expected on April 10, the astronauts onboard will speak with their families and undergo medical checks.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said the spacecraft has exited the Moon’s gravitational influence, is about 229,000 miles from Earth, and conditions look good for recovery.
