The West Asia conflict has entered its fifth week, with tensions escalating sharply and no immediate signs of de-escalation. US President Donald Trump said Iran has sought a ceasefire but set a condition that the Strait of Hormuz must be fully open for global shipping. Trump warned that military action would continue until this condition is met.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards responded, stating the Strait will remain closed to “enemies,” signalling no immediate reduction in hostilities. “The situation in the Strait of Hormuz is firmly under the control of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ naval forces,” the statement said.
Trump earlier indicated that the U.S. could end its military campaign in two to three weeks, adding that Tehran does not need to negotiate a deal with Washington to end the conflict. However, he emphasized that Iran must be “put into the stone ages,” without the capacity to acquire a nuclear weapon in the near future.
Iranian officials have signalled willingness to end hostilities only with firm guarantees against future aggression. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi denied any direct negotiations with the U.S., calling reported conditions “speculation by media outlets.”
Meanwhile, Israel has shown no signs of backing down. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said military operations against Iran will continue while Tel Aviv builds new regional alliances. “We have strengthened our alliance with the United States and are forging new alliances against the common Iranian threat,” he said.
On the ground, missile strikes and counter-strikes continue, hitting civilian areas in Tehran and Israeli cities. Casualties have been reported on both sides.
With diplomacy stalled, military actions intensifying, and the risk of wider regional escalation growing, the situation in West Asia remains volatile.
