Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today Presented the Union Budget 2026-27 at the Parliament of India. Before the tabling the Budget she met President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Key initiatives propesed for AYUSH sector in the Budget 2026–27 are:
Proposal to set up 3 new All India Institutes of Ayurveda to expand high-quality education, research and tertiary care capacity in Ayurveda.
Upgradation of AYUSH pharmacies and Drug Testing Laboratories to higher certification standards, strengthening the quality-assurance ecosystem for Ayurvedic and other traditional medicines and creating demand for more skilled personnel.
Proposal to upgrade the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine at Jamnagar to further bolster evidence-based research, training, and awareness in traditional medicine at the global level.
Establishment of AYUSH Centres within the proposed five Regional Medical Value Tourism Hubs, integrating AYUSH services into comprehensive medical tourism complexes alongside diagnostics, post-care and rehabilitation.
Inclusion of wellness and yoga as integral skills in the new care ecosystem for geriatric and allied care, via NSQF-aligned programmes to train 1.5 lakh caregivers in the coming year, thereby mainstreaming AYUSH-linked skills in the health workforce.
