JP Nadda visits landslide-hit Mon, assures Centre’s support

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda today visited landslide-affected areas in Mon Town, Nagaland and assured the affected people that the Government will extend all possible support for relief and restoration.

Accompanied by Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal and Nagaland Rajya Sabha MP Phangnon Konyak, Nadda inspected the landslide-affected areas at Defence Colony and adjoining areas of Techa Ward.

Interacting with affected families, the Union Minister described the incident as disheartening and painful and conveyed solidarity with the people of Mon. He said the people are not alone in this difficult hour and assured that the Centre will leave no stone unturned to support the affected population and restore essential infrastructure.

Nadda also conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message to the affected families.

He appreciated the efforts of the Mon District Administration, Konyak Union, Konyak Students’ Union, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong, rescue teams, SDRF, civil society organisations and volunteers for their emergency relief and rescue efforts.

Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Wennyei Konyak, briefed the Union Minister on the disaster situation, stating that incessant heavy rainfall had triggered floods and multiple landslides across the district. Roads, bridges and public infrastructure have suffered extensive damage, while several villages faced temporary disruption of road connectivity, he informed.

The Deputy Commissioner said relief camps and temporary shelters have been established wherever required, while food grains, drinking water, medicines and other essential commodities are being distributed to affected people.

Konyak Union President Yamao Konyak expressed gratitude to the Union Minister and his team for visiting Mon, saying the visit conveyed a strong message that the people of Mon are not alone during this difficult hour.

Meanwhile, MP Rajya Sabha S. Phangnon Konyak has expressed gratitude to Union Health Minister for visiting landslide-affected Mon district and expressing solidarity with the people affected by the recent calamity.

In a post on social media platform X, Konyak said the visit reflected the concern and solidarity of the Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the people of Mon and Nagaland.

The MP expressed gratitude to the Union Minister for the empathy shown towards the affected people and for the assurances of assistance and support extended.
