2 pilots killed in Greece mid-air helicopter crash

In Greece two pilots were killed, and two others rescued with multiple injuries, after two firefighting helicopters collided during a wildfire operation.

The injured pilots were stabilised at the scene and were not in immediate danger, although doctors warned of possible complications from inhaling fuel and other hazardous materials.

Firefighting operations continued as authorities launched an investigation into the cause of the fatal crash.

An official said that one helicopter crashed onto a road in flames after the mid-air collision, leaving a scene of widespread destruction.

He described the crash scene, saying the helicopter was destroyed, burning, and firefighters worked to extinguish the flames so rescuers could reach survivors.
