Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today conducted a aerial survey of the flood situation in more than 12 blocks of 5 districts of the state. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari and Special Relief Commissioner were present with the Chief Minister.
After the inspection, addressing the media, the Chief Minister said that many villages in these areas are under water. The situation is gradually improving. The flood water is likely to recede in the next two days.
Along with this, orders have been given to assess the damage within 3 days of the flood receding and after the assessment, assistance packages will be provided immediately in the areas of agriculture and house demolition, he said.
It is worth noting that the Chief Minister has surveyed the situation of Dasharathpur, Bari and Binjharpur in Jajpur district, Dhamnagar, Bhandaripokhari and Chandbali in Bhadrak district, Sor, Remuna and Balasore Sadar in Balasore district, some affected parts of Badsahi, Udla and Kaptipadar in Mayurbhanj district and the affected areas of Hatdihi block in Keonjhar district from Akashmarg.
Expressing that he is keeping a close watch on the flood situation, the Chief Minister said that instructions have been given to take appropriate steps after consulting the ministers and officials.
The Chief Minister Majhi said that a close watch has also been kept on the flood situation in Puri district.
Like all disasters, Zero Casualty has been given importance in this flood too. While 8 lakh people have been affected by the ongoing floods, 2.69 lakh people have been shifted to safer places.
17 ODRAF, 7 NDRF and 129 fire and emergency service teams are involved in the rescue operation. Arrangements have been made for accommodation, dry and cooked food, drinking water and medical services for the affected people in 700 shelters and relief camps.
He said that senior officers are supervising the relief and recovery work at the field level in all these districts.
Giving information about the assistance to the flood victims, the Chief Minister said that Rs. 26 crore has been released from the State Disaster Management Fund for relief and rescue work. The affected families are being provided with polythene, dry and cooked food, drinking water and medicines.
Stating that orders have also been given for immediate repair of the affected roads, he said that strict vigilance is being maintained to prevent health problems after the flood.
He said that due to timely information and proper steps taken by the government, major flood-related damage has been prevented.
