The first meeting of the reconstituted Hindi Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways was held today in New Delhi under the chairmanship of the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal. Lok Sabha MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, Rajya Sabha MP Madan Rathore, other esteemed members of the Hindi Advisory Committee, Official Language experts, and senior officials from the Ministry and its subordinate organizations attended the meeting.
The objective of the meeting was to review the current status of the use of the Official Language, Hindi, within the Ministry and its subordinate organizations, and to deliberate on measures to make its progressive use more effective.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vijay Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, welcomed the members, highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to the progressive use of Hindi as the Official Language, and apprised them of the efforts being made in this direction.
During the meeting, the esteemed members offered several significant and useful suggestions to promote the effective use of Hindi in the Ministry’s administrative functions, official correspondence, public communication, and various programs.
Addressing the meeting, Sonowal said, “The Hindi Advisory Committee is not merely a formal body; rather, it is a vital platform for ensuring linguistic simplicity in the administrative implementation of the Official Language policy and for making governance more accessible to the general public. The suggestions made by this committee play a crucial role in making the Ministry’s policies and functioning more effective, people-centric, and accessible.”
He said, “Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India is rapidly advancing towards the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ (Developed India 2047). The development of infrastructure, logistics, the maritime economy, and waterways is crucial to realizing this resolve. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, our Ministry is continuously working towards the modernization of ports, the development of maritime infrastructure, green and sustainable shipping, and the expansion of waterways. Through ‘Maritime India Vision 2030’ and ‘Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047’, the goal has been set to make India’s maritime sector a global leader. I am delighted to share with you that India has secured the top global position in the ship-recycling sector.”
On this occasion, 12 organizations under the Ministry were honored with the ‘Rajbhasha Shield’ for the progressive use of the official language, Hindi, and for outstanding work.
The Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways also appreciated the suggestions made by the committee members and reiterated the commitment to further promote the use of the official language, Hindi, within the Ministry.
