The United States and Japan joined the Philippines in 5-day maritime exercises in the South China Sea from July 21 to 25, as per the Philippine military on Sunday.
The Multilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity involved warships, coast guard vessels, surveillance aircraft and fighter jets aimed at enhancing interoperability among the allies.
Operations focused on improving maritime domain awareness, replenishment at sea and tactical coordination within the Philippine Exclusive Economic Zone. The drills underscored shared commitment to regional security and a free and open Indo-Pacific.
The exercises took place amid ongoing tensions, as the Philippine and Chinese Governments traded accusations following a recent encounter between their vessels in the disputed waters.
