Germany will buy Tomahawk cruise missiles from US and station on its soil, boosting its own long-range strike capability, Chancellor Friedrich Merz said.
Chancellor Merz said he secured the Tomahawk deal with the U.S. during the NATO Summit in Ankara, calling it a step to close a key defence gap, while developing European long-range systems.
The number of missiles and launchers Germany plans to acquire has not been disclosed as it is classified information. The purchase aligns with U.S. President Trump’s push for European allies, to fund their own security by buying U.S. weapons.
