At least eight Rohingya Muslims, including children, were killed and several others injured after heavy monsoon rains triggered multiple landslides in refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar in southeastern Bangladesh on Monday.

The landslides struck four locations in the world’s largest refugee settlement, home to over 1.2 million Rohingya, burying makeshift shelters on steep hillsides.

The deaths come amid renewed fighting in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, raising fears of fresh refugee influxes. Authorities are on high alert as more heavy rain is forecast in the coming days.
