Ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara, U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday spoke with his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Trump reportedly spoke for nearly 90 minutes with Russian President Vladimir Putin, offering assistance to help end the Ukraine conflict.
He also held a separate conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who described the discussion as “very good.”
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said Trump offered to help with a Ukraine settlement during his conversation with Putin.
Ushakov said the two leaders touched on the issue of a settlement in Ukraine, including in the context of Trump’s upcoming participation in the NATO summit in Turkey on July 7–8.
He added that the U.S. President confirmed his readiness to work towards a rapid end to the fighting and find solutions to the crisis.
Ushakov further stated that Trump’s special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, would continue mediation efforts and would be ready to visit Moscow again at a convenient time.
