Singapore High Commissioner meets Odisha CM to strengthen business ties

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today held a high-level meeting with Singapore’s High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, at Lok Seva Bhavan and discussed the successful implementation of bilateral investment projects.

The meeting marked a significant step towards realising the trade and economic potential between the two countries.

The Chief Minister said that Singapore’s expertise in urban planning, clean energy, port management and technology would be of great help in achieving Odisha’s development goals. Odisha has entered a new phase of growth in the last few years. Singapore will play a key role as a natural partner in achieving the goals of ‘Prosperous Odisha 2036’ and ‘Developed India 2047’, the Chief Minister said in the meeting.

Informing about the prosperous investment-friendly environment of Odisha, the Chief Minister assured Singaporean investors of full support, single-window system and prompt decision on investment proposals.

Referring to the visit of the Honorable President of Singapore, Dr. Tharman Sanmugaratnam to Odisha in January 2025, the Chief Minister said that this visit strengthened the cooperation between Odisha and Singapore. During this time, 8 important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were signed between 5 major departments of the state. Emphasizing the immediate implementation of these 8 MoUs, the Chief Minister proposed to form a well-organized mechanism or Structured Engagement Mechanism for the success of Singapore’s investment and various partnerships in Odisha. Along with this, he invited a business delegation from Singapore to come to Odisha in the field of green energy, urban development and capacity building.

Highlighting the ‘Black Swan Summit’ held in Odisha, Chief Minister Majhi said that steps have been taken to make the youth of Odisha skilled in the fields of Fintech and Insurtech.

He said that with the cooperation of Singapore, the efforts in the fields of Fintech and Insurtech in Odisha will be further strengthened.

Singapore’s High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, extended his warmest greetings and congratulations to the Chief Minister on the successful completion of two years of the Odisha Government. Wong pledged Singapore’s support in the development process of Odisha and said that they would work together in the journey of progress and growth of the state in the coming days.

Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department Hemant Sharma and Additional Chief Secretary, Power Department Vishal Deb were prominently present on the occasion. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Consul-General, Mumbai Cheong Ming Foong and various officials from the High Commissioner’s office.
