Colombo witnessed a historic cultural milestone on Sunday as more than 5,000 Bharatanatyam dancers came together to set a Guinness World Record for the largest Bharatanatyam dance lesson ever conducted.

The record-breaking gathering was held at Galle Face Green and saw participation from Sri Lanka, India, and several other countries in a grand celebration of classical dance and shared cultural heritage.

Organised by Sangamam Global Academy (India) and Samgamizh Liya (Sri Lanka), the event featured synchronised Bharatanatyam performances by thousands of dancers dressed in traditional attire.

The Guinness World Records certificate was presented to Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha on behalf of the performers and organisers.

Congratulating the participants, High Commissioner Jha highlighted the importance of cultural exchanges in strengthening people-to-people ties between India and Sri Lanka.

The event, attended by senior Sri Lankan ministers and a large audience, marked a significant milestone for the global Bharatanatyam community and underlined the enduring appeal of one of India’s oldest classical dance forms.
