48th session of UNESCO World Heritage Committee takes place in Busan, South Korea

The 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee takes place in Busan, Republic of Korea, from 19 to 29 July 2026.

During the session, the Committee will examine nominations for inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Decisions on new inscriptions are expected between 24 July (afternoon) and 27 July (morning).

Among the nominations under consideration is Ancient Buddhist Site, Sarnath, Varanasi (India). Should the Site be inscribed, it would mark an important milestone in the recognition of India’s rich cultural heritage.
