Thousands took to the streets of Albania’s capital Tirana on June 10 in the largest demonstration yet against the development of a luxury resort planned by Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
The planned 5-billion-euro project has sparked controversy over its location near a protected wetland rich in wildlife and concerns about the transparency of plans put forward by foreign investors.
Protesters gathered outside Prime Minister Edi Rama’s office opposing the project.
Protests broke out near Zvernec, after developers fenced off part of the project site, though the fence was later removed.
The protests have become a major challenge for the country’s longtime leader, with critics accusing the government of failing to curb corruption and improve public services.
