U.S. President Donald Trump departed Beijing after concluding a two-day summit with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, on Friday.

Analysts say Trump was expected to urge Beijing to encourage Iran toward a deal with Washington, though experts believe China is unlikely to pressure Tehran given its strategic ties with the country.

During the summit, Xi described U.S.-China ties as entering a new “constructive and strategic” phase, calling the visit a “milestone” that produced several cooperative understandings between the two sides.

In a rare gesture, Xi gave Trump a private tour of the compound’s inner grounds, including the famous “Lianli Bai” cypress trees whose trunks have grown together.

During the visit, Trump remarked on the age of the trees and asked Xi whether other foreign leaders were also received there.
