Severe hailstorms in Tangmarg and Pattan have caused significant damage to orchards, badly affecting fruit growers and destroying their year-long earnings.

The affected farmers have appealed to the government to immediately assess the losses and provide timely compensation.

Residents said several areas of the Gulmarg constituency, including Yal, Krishhama, Kati Bagh, Lalpora, Chachi Lora, Dhobiwan and Zokar, were hit by sudden and intense hailstorms, causing extensive damage to fruit orchards.

They said the hailstorm particularly affected apple and other fruit orchards at a crucial stage when the trees had blossoms and early fruit.

Farmers said the hailstorm severely impacted their hard work of the entire year, while reports of large-scale damage continue to emerge from several affected areas.
