Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has claimed it captured an oil tanker in a special operation in the Gulf of Oman, while the United States military said it disabled two tankers attempting to enter Iranian ports.

The developments came just hours after the US and Iran exchanged fire in the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns over a fragile pause in fighting and ongoing efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire agreement. US President Donald Trump said Iran had attacked three US Navy destroyers in the strait.

Iranian officials accused the United States of violating the ceasefire through the tanker strikes and undermining diplomatic efforts to end the conflict. Iran said 10 sailors were injured in the strike, while five others remain missing.

The latest incident followed another overnight flare-up in the Strait of Hormuz, whose strategic importance was compared by an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader to possessing an atomic bomb.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated on Friday that it was unacceptable for Tehran to control the vital oil shipping route.
