India rebuilds new bailey bridge in Nepal

A high-capacity modular bridge at Nepalthok that connects Sindhuli and Ramechchap district  that has a 70-metre span was jointly inaugurated by   Gitanjali Brandon, Counsellor, Embassy of India, Kathmandu and Dr. Bijaya Jaishi, Director General, Department of Roads, Government of Nepal.

The modular bridge inaugurated on Thursday, is one of the ten similar bridges being provided by the Government of India to the Government of Nepal, for aiding the restoration of connectivity following the devastating rains of October 2025.

The ten bailey bridges, worth more than NPR 73 crores, along with technical assistance for their installation, are being provided by the Government of India to the Government of Nepal on grant basis.

During the event, Counsellor stated that the inauguration of this modular bridge is a reflection of the enduring bonds of friendship that define the India-Nepal relationship, and reaffirmed Government of India’s continued support for Nepal’s infrastructure development and post-disaster reconstruction efforts.

Director General, Department of Roads, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Government of Nepal expressed gratitude for India’s timely assistance. DG noted that the quick-to-assemble nature of these bridges is crucial for fast-tracking emergency reconstruction.

He expressed confidence that the newly installed bridge would help restore and enhance the movement of people and goods across Sindhuli and Ramechhap districts of Nepal.
