Bulgaria’s pro-Russian former President Rumen Radev is leading in parliamentary election with 45% of votes, after 60% of votes were counted on Monday. In the 242 seat parliament to get the majority 132 seats are needed.

Radev, who opposes military support for Ukraine’s war effort against Moscow, stepped down from the presidency in January to run in the parliamentary election, which comes after mass protests forced out the previous government in December.

If confirmed, the performance would mark one of the strongest results by a single party in a generation.

Radev’s Progressive Bulgaria’s decisive victory over the liberal may see an end to the instability that has resulted in eight elections in five years.

Final election results are expected later today.
