India has strongly condemned the attack on a Thai ship in the Strait of Hormuz, which was bound for Kandla in Gujarat.
The Royal Thai Navy in a statement said that 23 Thai crew members were on board. Most of them have been rescued, while three are still in the process of being rescued as the ship continues to burn. The exact cause of the attack and who was responsible are still under investigation.
In a statement, the government said it deplores the targeting of commercial shipping in the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
India noted that precious lives, including those of Indian citizens, have already been lost in several such attacks during the earlier phase of the conflict.
The government also expressed concern that the intensity and lethality of these attacks appear to be increasing, posing serious risks to maritime safety and global trade routes.
