Nobel Peace Prize goes to Venezuelan Activist Maria Corina Machado

The Prestigious Nobel Peace Prize 2025 is announced today. The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Peace Prize to Maria Corina Machado for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.

The 58 year old Machado is a Venezuelan politician and Industrial Engineer. She served as a member of Venezuela National Assembly from 2011 to 2014.

She has started her political career in 2002 and in 2012 she became the candidate for president primary opposition candidate and lost.

However she won the 2023 opposition primary election to become the unity candidate for the 2024 Venezuelan presidential election. But due to a ruling of Venezuela Supreme court, she was disqualified by the Comptroller General of Venezuela.

Machado announced her hiding stating she feared her life and freedom under the Maduro Government.

For her activism Machado has named many international awards and achievements.
