Israel has approved a ceasefire and hostage release plan aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in Gaza. This development follows an agreement between Israel and Hamas on the “first phase” of a peace initiative to pause hostilities and secure the release of at least some hostages and prisoners.
As part of the initial phase, Hamas will release 20 living hostages in exchange for 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. The exchange is scheduled to take place within 72 hours of the agreement’s implementation.
