Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro suggested that the latest vessel bombed by the United States in the Caribbean might have been Colombian, with Colombian citizens on board.
However, the White House dismissed Petro’s comments. On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced another military strike targeting drug trafficking vessels off the coast of Venezuela, although the Pentagon has yet to confirm that any strike took place on Saturday.
If Petro’s claim is confirmed, it would mark Colombia’s involvement in a campaign that had previously focused on Venezuelan boats.
There have been at least four such strikes in recent weeks, with the Trump administration reporting 21 deaths resulting from these operations. The attacks have heightened tensions in the region, and Washington called off diplomatic outreach to Venezuela on October 6.
