The U.S. government has threatened to revoke Columbia University’s accreditation over allegations of anti-Semitism on campus, a move that could jeopardize the university’s federal funding and academic prestige.
The Department of Education alleges that Columbia University failed to protect Jewish students from harassment, in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin by institutions receiving federal funds.
Earlier in March, the Trump administration placed $400 million of Columbia’s federal funding under review. In response, the university introduced new policies aimed at addressing concerns over anti-Semitism. Columbia University has stated it remains committed to combating anti-Semitism and is working with federal authorities to resolve the issue.
