External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar held a meeting of Quad Foreign Ministers in Washington, D.C. The leaders discussed how to make the Quad more focused and impactful on contemporary opportunities and challenges.
Dr. Jaishankar said that today’s gathering will strengthen strategic stability in the Indo-Pacific and keep it free and open. On the sidelines of the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting, Dr. Jaishankar met U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth in Washington, D.C.
The two leaders had a productive conversation on advancing the India-U.S. defence partnership, building on growing convergences of interests, capabilities, and responsibilities. The meeting was followed by a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
They discussed the bilateral partnership, including trade, security, critical technologies, connectivity, energy, and mobility, and shared perspectives on regional and global developments.
The External Affairs Minister also held a useful conversation with U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright. Dr. Jaishankar spoke about the energy transformation underway in India and opportunities for a deeper India-U.S. energy partnership.
He also had the opportunity to meet his Australian counterpart, Penny Wong. Their discussions were reflective of the trust and comfort of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The EAM said he looks forward to welcoming Wong in India.
Earlier, Dr. Jaishankar met his Japanese counterpart Takeshi Iwaya and held comprehensive discussions on infrastructure, investment, and mobility. The two leaders also exchanged views on deepening Quad engagement for a free and open Indo-Pacific.
Dr. Jaishankar said the Special, Strategic and Global Partnership between India and Japan continues to deepen and diversify.
