In Punjab, at least nine people were killed and 22 others injured when a vehicle carrying members of a family collided with a truck on the Ferozepur-Fazilka road today morning. The victims, all members of the same family, were on their way to Beas to immerse the ashes of a deceased relative in the Beas River when the accident occurred.
Many people reportedly died on the spot, while the injured were rushed to Ferozepur Civil Hospital and Faridkot Medical College for treatment. Police sources said that many amongst the 22 are serious.
Senior police officials reached the accident site soon after the incident and launched rescue operations with the help of local residents. The injured were evacuated and admitted to nearby hospitals.
