IRCTC Announces Launch of ‘Sapta Jyotirlinga Mahayatra’

Rail-Based Pilgrimage Tourism Circuit will cover Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Nageshwar, Somnath, Bhimashankar, Grishneshwar, and Trymbakeshwar in 11 days

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd. (IRCTC), a Navratna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, has introduced a new tourism circuit titled “Sapta Jyotirlinga Mahayatra” on its Bharat Gaurav Deluxe Tourist Train.

The life-tme journey across India’s most revered spiritual landscapes has been meticulously curated tracing a sacred path to the Jyotirlingas through Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra before returning to the capital.

Madhya Pradesh: The Land of Spiritual Awakening

The first destination that will be covered in this pilgrimage is the ancient city of Ujjain where the devouts will witness Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga situated by the river Shipra. After a nights halt here, the journey will move towards Khandwa tovisit the island-based Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga on the Narmada River before boarding the train for an overnight transit to Dwarka, Gujarat.

Gujarat: Legends of Lord Krishna & the First Jyotirlinga

Day 4 of the journey is spent mostly on train before it arrives at the coastal city of Dwarka. It is home to the stunning Dwarkadhish temple that is dedicated to Lord Krishna. After a night halt, the group proceeds for Rukmini Devi Temple, a shrine that stands as a testament to the divine love of Lord Krishna and his beloved consort Rukmini. Later in the day the guests pay homage at the revered Nageshwar Jyotirlinga and Beyt Dwarka before resuming the train journey for the next destination Somnath.

Somnath is one of India’s most sacred pilgrimage centres and the first among the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and located at Prabhas Patan. The tourists will be visiting the eponymous temple, adjacent Somnath Beach and Bhalka Tirth, the site from where Krishna is believed to have left for heavenly abode.

Maharashtra: Heritage, Devotion, and Epic Trails

The journey then enters Maharashtra, covering the Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Temple near Pune. Moving forward, travelers will reach at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar where they will explore the architectural marvel of Kailash Mandir at Ellora (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) alongside Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga Temple.

The final spiritual destination of the tour is Nashik known for the holy Trymbakeshwar Jyotirlinga Temple by the banks of the Godavari River and later Panchvati, where Rama is believed to have lived during his exile with Sita and Lakhsman. Thereafter the train starts back on its return journey for Delhi marking the conclusion of a memorable and spiritually enriching journey.

This special rail tour is designed for maximum ease, featuring leisurely transitions, overnight hotel stays instead of continuous train nights providing a seamless, safe, and enriching travel experience. The Bharat Gaurav Deluxe Tourist Train is equipped with modern amenities such as well-appointed cabins in AC III, AC II &AC I category, onboard restaurants serving hygienic vegetarian meals, enhanced safety and security features, and dedicated tour managers.

The multi-tiered double occupancy pricing starts from Rs 90,930/- per person in AC III tier to Rs 1,09,925/- per person in AC II and Rs. 1,19,425/- per person in AC I class. Indian Railways is providing approximately 33% concession for promotion of rail tourism under Bharat Gaurav Train scheme which is already incorporated in the tour price.
