President Droupadi Murmu concluded her two-day State Visit to North Macedonia on Wednesday, the first-ever bilateral visit by an Indian President to the country. During the visit, the historic city of Ohrid emerged as one of the key highlights.

Ohrid, one of North Macedonia’s most celebrated tourist destinations, holds the rare distinction of being recognised by UNESCO for both its natural and cultural heritage. India’s Khangchendzonga National Park in Sikkim shares the same unique status.

Located on the shores of Lake Ohrid, the city is known for its rich history, scenic beauty and centuries-old landmarks. Popular attractions include the Saint Naum Monastery, the Church of Saint Clement of Ohrid and the historic Old Town.

Lake Ohrid is considered one of Europe’s oldest and deepest lakes and is renowned for its exceptional biodiversity.

The town is also famous for its many historic churches, reflecting its long-standing cultural and religious significance.

Combining history, art, culture and natural beauty, Ohrid is emerging as one of Europe’s hidden gems and a popular destination for travellers seeking a unique experience.
