Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched “Project Hawk Eye”, a technology-driven surveillance initiative for round-the-clock monitoring of the Amarnath Yatra route, as security agencies intensified preparations for the annual pilgrimage scheduled to commence on July 3.

Meanwhile on Friday, Police conducted a grenade attack response mock drill at the Bijbehara Landing Strip in Anantnag as part of security preparations for the Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026.

The exercise simulated a grenade attack to assess the readiness and response capabilities of security forces during a potential security incident. Personnel rehearsed emergency response procedures, including area sanitization, civilian evacuation, casualty management, threat neutralization, and inter-agency coordination.

The drill involved Anantnag Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and other concerned agencies. It also evaluated communication systems, the deployment of Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), access control measures, medical evacuation procedures, and command-and-control mechanisms to ensure a coordinated response during emergencies.

Police said similar mock drills are being conducted at strategic locations across the district to strengthen preparedness, improve response capabilities, and help ensure the safety and security of pilgrims during the annual yatra.
