Train services across Germany resumed early on June 24, after a nationwide disruption of the digital railway radio system was fixed.
Earlier, at Munich station, departure boards warned passengers not to board trains citing severe disruption. The services were delayed or cancelled and crowd was stranded on platforms with luggage.
Germany’s state-owned national railway company Deutsche Bahn said that all trains were being held at stations due to an outage affecting GSM-R, the communication system linking train drivers with traffic control centres.
The system was essential for safe railway operations, the authority noted.
