Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali’s Prosperity Party won a landslide victory in the Legislative polls held on June 1, giving it almost 90% of the seats.
The national election board released the results on Sunday.
The ruling Prosperity Party won more than 90% of the available seats, securing 438 seats in the House of Peoples’ Representatives. The party won a similar percentage in 2021 as well.
It was considered the overwhelming favourite in the country of 130 million, facing a divided opposition that did not field candidates in many constituencies.
The commission said that 143 polling stations did not open on election day due to security concerns, adding voting was interrupted in several locations in Amhara and Oromia.
