US President Donald Trump has continued his criticism of NATO members for not joining the US and Israel in the war against Iran, this time targeting Italy and its Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni.
President Trump’s criticism reflects a frustration he has repeatedly expressed toward NATO members, whom he accuses of relying heavily on American military power while contributing too little themselves.
Earlier, he had accused Meloni of refusing to allow the US access to Italian landing strips and runways during the war with Iran.
The latest broadside came just days after a bitter exchange between the two leaders following the G7 Summit in France, where Trump repeatedly claimed that Meloni sought his attention and requested photographs with him.
On Saturday, Meloni told Trump to look after his own popularity after he accused his NATO ally of trying to boost her domestic ratings by repairing ties with Washington.
