Ahead of the G7 leaders’ summit in France, French President Emmanuel Macron met Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Friday.
Macron and Carney discussed their shared goals and commitments to international law, resolving conflicts through diplomacy, and building strategic autonomy.
Carney announced that Canada and France have agreed to deepen information-sharing in defence, aerospace, and artificial intelligence.
The Canadian Prime Minister expressed hope that the G7 summit would make progress toward a cessation of hostilities involving Iran, adding that Canada remains prepared to help maintain the opening of the Strait of Hormuz once it is secured.
The June 15–17 G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains, on the shore of Lake Geneva, will bring together leaders of France, Britain, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States, along with the European Union.
The lakeside town of Evian-les-Bains will host this year’s summit of Group of Seven leaders, with wars in West Asia and Ukraine expected to dominate discussions, as host France crafts an agenda aimed at easing tensions with United States President Donald Trump while projecting unity.
