Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed the law and order situation in the state with the state administration, police senior officers and District Collectors and SPs this evening. In the review, the Chief Minister advised the state police to gain the trust of the public and said that the state police should take such steps so that the police can gain the trust of the common man and also create fear among the criminals.
The Chief Minister said that at the district level, administrative officers and police officers should work together as a team. He said that if there is coordination between the police and other administrative officers of the district, more success can be achieved in crime control. Local administrative officers can be of great help to the police administration in any criminal activity. Just as team spirit is being worked on for the success of various schemes and projects, the Chief Minister advised to maintain team spirit in the field of crime control as well.
The Chief Minister said that it is very important for the police to take proactive steps. It is important to collect information about crimes in different areas and do crime mapping. Along with this, emphasis should also be placed on collecting intelligence. If we can maintain good relations with the common people like friends, the police will get help if they get information. This will also facilitate the police to take proactive steps in many places.
The Chief Minister directed to completely tighten the police patrolling system. It is very important for the presence of the police to be visible in public. The Chief Minister said that extensive patrolling system can create fear among criminals and also create trust among the general public.
In the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the police administration to completely eradicate organized crime. Just as Naxal crime has been suppressed in the state, the Chief Minister advised to completely suppress sand mafias. The Chief Minister advised to reduce the possibility of crime by taking proactive steps against criminal elements wherever they occur under the police law.
Advising the District Magistrate and SPs, the Chief Minister said that they should regularly review the law and order situation in the district and send reports to the Director General of Police, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) and Chief Secretary. The Chief Minister also directed the Chief Secretary to regularly inform the Chief Minister about the situation in various districts.
The Chief Minister said that the state police administration has also achieved success in many areas. Due to the improved investigation system of the police, the conviction rate under the Indian Penal Code has increased significantly. The success of the police in Naxal crime is commendable. However, the Chief Minister opined that the police should control crime in an innovative manner in view of the modern situation.
In the meeting, Chief Secretary Mrs. Anu Garg and Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Shri Hemant Sharma discussed the law and order situation in the state with the District Magistrates and SPs and advised them to implement the Chief Minister’s approach. Director General of Police Shri Y.B. Khurania informed the Chief Minister about the various steps being taken by the police administration.
