Chief Minister Majhi directs Crime Branch to conduct proper investigation on mob lynching case

A high-level meeting was held at Lok Seva Bhawan today evening under the chairmanship of Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi regarding the mob lynching incident in Balianta area of ​​Bhubaneswar.

After a detailed discussion on the incident, the Chief Minister has directed the Crime Branch to conduct a proper and thorough investigation into the incident and take strict action against the culprits.

The Chief Minister has directed the Director General of Police to be alert and vigilant to prevent recurrence of such incidents. The Chief Minister has directed the Police to take strictest action to establish the rule of law in the state.

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister’s Advisor Prakash Mishra, Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary Home Department Hemant Sharma, Director General of Police Y.B. Khurania, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Sashwat Mishra, Director of Intelligence R.P. Koche, Additional Director General of Law and Order Sanjay Kumar, ADG Crime Branch Binaytosh Mishra, Commissioner of Police S. Devdutt Singh and DCP Jagmohan Meena.

It is noted that on 7 May, 2026, a 32-year old Government Railway Police (GRP) constable named Soumya Ranjan Swain was attacked and beaten to death by mobs over allegation of sexual assult of two women. Police also arrested all the accused.
