Chief Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi has said that empowerment in the social, economic and political fields is the real empowerment of women, he was addressing the special one-day session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly today.
Majhi said, “Today our country is going through a special situation. It has been 75 years since the adoption of the Constitution, a lot of progress has been made in the country. However, half of the population of the country feels cheated today.”
He further said, “For the last few decades, all political parties have been talking about women’s empowerment. However, for them, the definition of women’s empowerment is very narrow. Because, for them, women’s empowerment means only economic self-reliance.”
The Chief Minister stated that by forming SHG and giving some money, they think that women have become empowered.” “But, this is a misconception. The real definition of empowerment is the right to take decisions for oneself, for the family and for the society,” he added.
Continuing his speech at the full house assembly hall, CM Majhi said that it has been almost 80 years since the country became independent. In these eight decades, the daughters and women of our country have become proficient in all fields. They have started running the house, driving auto-buses and flying fighter planes. You may remember that after the Balakot attack, a brave and capable radar engineer of the Indian Air Force played a key role in shooting down the Pakistani fighter jet F-16.
Remembering the ‘Operation Sindoorr, Majhi saidthat the face of the Indian Army was Colonel Sophia Qureshi and Wing Commander Bhoymika Singh. This is the woman power of modern India. The role of women in the field of education is even more important. According to UDISE+ data, for the year 2023-24, 53.3 percent of school teachers are women and 43 percent of higher education teachers are women.
Focusing onto the women education, the Chief Ministern said that the country’s education system is largely on the shoulders of women. Those who are building the future of the country, those who are laying the foundation for the country’s thinking doctors, engineers, scientists, leaders, can’t they take the lead of the country? Today’s woman power is capable of doing the impossible. All she needs is an equal opportunity, a level playing field. However, in our male-dominated society, some obstacles are always created to give women a chance.
